Where in the world is West Coast?

If you’ve been a supporter of our theater over the past few years, you know that West Coast Ensemble offers high quality intimate theatre that will change the way you think about things. The thing you don’t necessarily know is exactly where you’re going to be seeing that high quality theatre.

We’ve moved around a lot since losing our theatre on LaBrea Avenue in 2005. First we tried the “funky but edgy warehouse in a marginal Hollywood neighborhood” thing, which was fine until the City of L.A. stepped in and told us that one man’s funky but edgy warehouse is another man’s fire hazard. Then we tried the Lyric-Hyperion Theater in Silverlake, which was great for a year, but perhaps not ideal for us (although the 12 sold-out weeks of Zanna Don’t sure were fun).

Now, we’ve made our way back into Hollywood. Our new temporary space is the El Centro Theatre, just a few blocks northeast of Melrose and Vine.

But wait, there’s more …
As excited as we are to be back in Hollywood, our dreams are bigger than our current square footage. Fortunately, West Coast Ensemble Theatre has been selected to participate in a partnership with the City of L.A. Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
Through the CRA’s Theater Retention Program, displaced theaters like ours will receive consulting and financial assistance from the city to convert unused or underused facilities in Hollywood into intimate live theaters. WCE is one of seven theater companies to be selected and we are looking forward to having a permanent home in Hollywood soon.
